What do school governors do?

Ravenstonedale School is run by the governing body, the headteacher and the school staff. The role of the governing body is to ensure our children recieve a good education.

As in all schools, our governing body is responsible for ensuring that Ravenstonedale School is run to promote pupil achievement. Duties include:

  • deciding on school policies, objectives and how to develop Ravenstonedale School for the future
  • approving the school budget
  • reviewing progress against the school's budget and objectives
  • appointing, challenging and supporting the headteacher

The governing body is made up of volunteers. There are different types of governors, including-

parent governors who are elected by parents,

staff representatives,

local authority governors, who are appointed by the local authority,

community governors, members of the local community invited to join bymembers of the governing body.
